Job Description

The Area Agency on Aging is dedicated to supporting the well-being and independence of older adults in our community. As a Nutrition Supervisor, you will play a vital role in managing the senior nutrition program, ensuring that nutritious meals are provided in accordance with state and public health guidelines. This position oversees kitchen staff and volunteers, coordinates menu planning, and ensures compliance with all nutrition and sanitation standards. Responsibilities

  • Supervise all kitchen staff and volunteers, ensuring effective teamwork and adherence to assigned hours
  • Manage the senior nutrition program, including menu planning, meal cycle completion, and obtaining approval from a Registered Dietitian
  • Ensure compliance with nutrition and sanitation guidelines set by the State of Colorado and the Colorado Department of Public Health
  • Update and distribute menus to staff and volunteers
  • Oversee frozen meals and emergency food box programs
  • Provide training to staff and volunteers as needed
  • Assist the Area Agency on Aging director in preparing the four-year plan
  • Support volunteer recruitment and help coordinate volunteer appreciation events
  • Attend required meetings and conduct quarterly site visits and checks
  • Monitor temperature reports and maintain accurate inventories and paperwork
  • Coordinate with health inspectors, repair personnel, and state staff as needed
  • Schedule and lead cooks’ meetings and site supervisor trainings
  • Prepare purchase orders and approve timesheets for nutrition program staff
  • Deliver supplies and paperwork as needed
  • Oversee acquisition, inventory control, and distribution of food, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain and care for the nutrition program vehicle
  • Complete background checks for home delivery volunteers
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the nutrition program

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe Manager’s Food Safety Training Certificate
  • One to two years of experience in food service
  • Desire to work with elderly clients and provide nutritious meals
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability
  • Knowledge of quantity cooking, commercial kitchen equipment, and food purchasing
  • Understanding of weights and measures for large-scale food preparation
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with computers and basic software programs
  • Ability to write clear and concise correspondence
  • Familiarity with sanitation requirements, budgeting, and dietary guidelines
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers effectively
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and complete paperwork in a timely manner
  • Ability to collaborate with service organizations, vendors, government agencies, and elderly participants
  • Ability to follow recipes and work well with others
