Job Description

Our purpose is sustaining energy and water for life, and it is demonstrated in everything we do as a business, and as an employee team.

At Liberty, we hire passionate people who care about doing the right thing for our customers. We are entrepreneurial, creative, and outcome-focused. Here, your natural talent and achievements will flourish in an inclusive environment of teamwork, trust and continuous learning. We are always pursuing excellence to exceed our ambitions goals, rewarding both the goal outcome and how we achieve it.

Purpose

As a substation engineer and under minimal supervision from the Department Manager, you will be responsible for leading the detailed design and standardization of substation installations and modifications, drawing upon authoritative knowledge and sound judgment. The position involves guiding and reviewing the work of less experienced engineers, providing mentorship and technical oversight to support their professional development. As a technical leader on substation projects, the individual will apply extensive experience to drive informed decision-making, resolve complex technical challenges, and ensure overall project success. Additional responsibilities include leading training initiatives for junior engineers and contributing to broader engineering efforts as needed, while playing a key role in planning, organizing, and executing projects aligned with departmental goals.

Accountabilities

• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of power systems and consistently apply theoretical knowledge to practical, day-to-day engineering tasks.
• Stay current with emerging practices, industry trends, technologies, and regulatory developments relevant to the field.
• Identify all necessary phases of a project, set clear priorities, and organize tasks to effectively plan, design, and execute projects.
• Manage time efficiently, consistently meeting or exceeding deadlines while fulfilling commitments and responsibilities.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to lower-level engineers, contributing to their development and ensuring project continuity.
• Collaborate with entry-level and consulting engineers to coordinate design integrity, material procurement, and timely, integrated project completion.
• With minimal supervision, plan, design, and review communication relay schemes, relay panels, and control wiring in alignment with project timelines and budgetary constraints.
• Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including relay/control arrangement plans, material lists, relay and control schematics, external connection diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex substation design issues—including protective relaying schemes, relay panels, and control wiring—by collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure project success.
• Specify and evaluate vendor-provided designs and quotations to ensure compliance with technical specifications, purchasing standards, and long-term cost effectiveness.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience with 7+ years preferred.
• Substation Experience Required
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred and required for a Senior Engineer level
• Hybrid role (In office minimum Tues – Thursday) #LI-CT1
