Job Description

Sylvan is hiring College students or recent College grads as Math tutors at our Schaumburg, IL and Lake Zurich/Barrington, IL locations! We are hiring Part-Time Math tutors for in-person tutoring for students K-12:

• Math Tutor
• TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor

Benefits:

• Ability to see the results of your teaching efforts in a very short timeframe, as we work individually with students.
• Flexible hours, with seven days a week to choose from, including mornings in summer.
• All preparation and lesson planning is taken care of for you, so you can focus on teaching!

Tutor Requirements:

• For Math Tutors: College students or professionals with strong Math abilities. Education or Math degrees are not required.
• For TestPrep (ACT/SAT) Tutor: strong ACT/SAT score required (30 ACT/1400 SAT). Education or Math degrees are not required.
• Excellent job for local Community College students.
• 1 year tutoring experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Working out of one of our locations in Schaumburg or Lake Zurich/Barrington.

Tutor Skills and Qualifications:

• Teach using Sylvan based programs
• Curriculum, training and direction provided
• Direct and motivate students during instruction
• Reward students for successful work
• Evaluate and document student progress
• Communicate student needs to our Educational Team
• Develop rapport with students and establish a fun, engaging learning environment
• Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan

About Sylvan Learning Centers:

• We are the industry leaders in providing supplemental education to children in pre-K through 12th grade.
• We provide individualized instruction in Comprehension, Reading, English, Writing, Math and Study Skills.
• We also offer ACT/SAT Test Prep and STEM.
• Given the pandemic, we are seeing growing needs for tutoring.
• We teach 7 days per week and require our teachers to work at least one of Saturday/Sunday, and at least one day during the week. We have extended teaching opportunities in the summer with morning hours.
