The phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens through venipuncture or capillary stick, operating laboratory equipment, and handling specimen processing and shipping in hospital outpatient lab locations. This role requires certification and direct experience in phlebotomy and involves patient registration and training new staff. The position supports clinical laboratory functions within a healthcare organization focused on patient-centered care and professional development.
Description
All Sites: Reception and Telephone duties & proficient operation laboratory equipment including HIS/LIS systems; specimen handling: receiving and processing; prep & shipping of lab specimens for at Reference Laboratories; specimen/patient registration; phlebotomy - collection of blood samples by venipuncture or capillary stick; therapeutic blood collection; swab collection of specific Micro samples (per competency); assignment to OP Lab locations; training new staff as assigned.
