The SCCC Research Associate 3 supports research activities under the direction of a principal investigator, program director or designee. The Research Associate 3, SOM assumes responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for human malignancies. The incumbent contributes to collaborations with scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. This individual works as part of a team and assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, protocols, and supplies. Primary responsibilities include contributing to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, understanding and interpreting research protocols and procedures, participating in the publication of significant results, advancing expertise through continued education, training and/or research, maintaining an overview of relevant research findings, and ensuring all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance. Core job functions include maintaining daily operations and performing procedures related to new and ongoing research projects, assisting with ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, monitoring and maintaining inventory of supplies and stocks, assisting with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures, performing and assisting other research staff with standard laboratory techniques, developing, adapting, and implementing new laboratory procedures, recording, organizing, and writing up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and scientific presentations, keeping abreast of latest literature in the field and searching for references to technical problems, maintaining current knowledge of methods and techniques related to the specific field of research, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets. Education required is a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Skills required include accuracy and attention to detail, ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines, ability to handle confidential information with discretion, ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary, commitment to the University’s core values, ability to work independently and/or collaboratively, excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills, and knowledge in Linux and R with Python highly recommended.
