Be a part of a team transforming lives and supporting dreams every day! Requirements The Surgical Assistant is responsible for assisting in the care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gowns and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field, and issuing instruments to surgeons.
- Sets up tables, instruments and supplies for plastic surgery operations
- Assists in preparation and draping of patient and operative areas
- Prepares and passes instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count of the same
- Assists in maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis
- Decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies
- Cleans and stocks storage room as required
- Assists with table equipment, positioning patients, application of plaster dressings
- Prepares and maintains the sterile field for the surgical procedure
- Assists in discharging patients from the Operating Room Suite
- Follows established HIPPA policies and procedures at all times
- Assumes accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of mandatory training programs, unit specific requirements (i.e. BLS, ACLS, Surgical Assistant Certification) and unit meetings.
Education & Experience - High School Diploma required
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an Operating Room setting required
- Surgical Assistant Certification required
- Holds and maintains an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Prolonged periods of standing, reaching and bending
- Must be able to lift up to 10-20 pounds at times
- Good motor coordination required for rapid and accurate movements of the body and hand in response to visual and audio stimuli in the Operating Room
