The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Ultrasound Technician performs quality diagnostic sonographic exams and vascular studies on all patient populations of the hospital.  Ultrasound exams are done in the ultrasound department, portably throughout the facility, and in the OR.  The Ultrasound Technician will lift, assist and transport patients, and perform data entry for exam tracking and patient charging.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Completion of an accredited Ultrasound Training Program
• Proficient in using PACS

Preferred:

• ARDMS
• At least two years of experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• ARDMS, or ARDMS Eligible

Scheduling Requirements:

• Shift working, Monday-Friday 11:30pm-7:30am
• Full-Time (FT)

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates working knowledge of exam protocols including prep, positioning, safety, technique, processing and image labeling
• Operates Ultrasound equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Keeps room and equipment clean and in good order
• Reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisor
• Produces high quality images including proper positioning, markers, technique and image quality
• Performs necessary QA and record keeping functions routinely or as assigned
• Utilizes PACS and enters accurately identified and labeled images of patients
• Can retrieve old images and films, when necessary
• Supervises ultrasound students and performs evaluations, when necessary
• Effectively communicates exam instructions to patients, answers questions and allays anxiety
• Uses translation system when needed
• Transport patients from holding area to exam rooms
• Transports patients to and/or from ER, when necessary
• Assists with transport of patient from unit to and from Radiology department
• Operates equipment is surgical suite
• Observes sterile precautions
• Anticipates needs of surgeon
• Evaluates patient for exam by review of chart and previous diagnostic exams
• Consults with radiologist to determine correct exam protocol if uncertain
• Tracks status of exams to completion using RIS
• Demonstrates working knowledge of order entry system and accurately places orders
• Demonstrates competence in sending images for stat readings via teleradiology system
• Exercises excellent customer service skills using the principles of AIDET
