Job Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Department: Organizing & Member Engagement 
Reports to: Regional Manager
UDW Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (subject to change) 
Job Location: Modesto, CA
Work Arrangement: In office 
Salary Range: (Union Representative I, II: depending on experience)

• Union Representative I: $60,008.00 to $72,737.60 
• Union Representative II: $63,008.40 to $76,374.48 

Job Summary:
As a Union Representative , you will recruit and mobilize workers, facilitate training, and support member engagement to address workplace issues and advance union goals. You will lead orientations, workshops, and events, while building strong relationships with members and identifying potential leaders within the union. The role requires effective communication, accurate data management, and collaboration with colleagues to ensure successful outreach and event execution. Union Representatives also represent the union at professional events, assist with administrative tasks, and help develop materials and scripts to support organizing and advocacy efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Union Representative I

• Support and facilitate training programs and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of union members and potential union members. (Such as, but not limited to: AIMs, timesheet workshops, advocacy workshops, etc.)
• Recruit and mobilize workers by raising awareness and facilitating discussions regarding worksite issues, politics, public policy, and other matters affecting workers' lives.
• Actively recruit new members through orientations, AIMS, membership meetings, new member house visits, and special events.
• Participate and lead in IHSS Orientations and execute regional IHSS growth plans. 
• Identify, mentor, and develop member leaders.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with union members, identifying their abilities and potential contributions to the union. 
• Accurately manage and update membership data to monitor and develop member activists, leaders, and member participation. 
• Collaborate with colleagues to implement effective communication systems, ensuring effective outreach to members and providers. 
• Assist in creating flyers for local events such as Area Informational Meetings (AIMS), timesheet workshops, etc.
• Provide essential assistance to members and providers as needed. 
• Maintain organized work files and comply with administrative reporting requirements. 
• Represent the union at conferences, conventions, and other professional events, networking with industry experts and staying updated on best practices in the labor movement. 
• Assist in logistics to for event set up for actions, and service-related activities, like AIMs, membership meetings, workshops etc.
• Help create member engagement scripts to mobilize Providers to take action.
• Help create agendas and materials for meetings and events.
• Report issues from conversations had with Members to Leads or Supervisor.
• Assist with department projects and perform other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of work in this job classification.

Union Representative II
All duties of a Union Representative I and the following:

• Actively recruit new members through orientations with majority sign-up, AIMS, membership meetings, new member house visits, and special events. 
• Occasionally assist in planning the scheduling of orientations, AIMs, Membership Meetings, etc.
• Independently carries out all tasks and logistics related to prep and event set up for actions, press events, and service-related activities, like AIMs, membership meetings, workshops, etc.
• Assist with escalated tickets before being referred to Supervisor.
• Independently create scripts to mobilize Providers to take action.
• Independently create agendas and materials for meetings and events.

• A demonstrated commitment to unions, supporting and developing members’ voices 
• Computer and digital literacy relevant to the position.

Preferred Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience: 

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Union Experience: 6 months to 7+ years of significant experience in union or comparable organizing roles.
• Leadership Experience: 6 months to 7+ years of demonstrated experience leading members or coworkers in team settings to achieve organizational goals.
• Campaign Experience: 6 months to 7+ years of experience working on growth or bargaining campaigns.
• Core Competencies: Proven ability to consistently execute core membership growth and engagement competencies.
• Communication Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and public speaking abilities.
• Technical Skills: Strong computer proficiency and comfort with technology.
• Subject Matter Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with the California Child Care System
  • Understanding of the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program
• Union Representative I: 6 months to 2 years of relevant experience.
• Union Representative II: 3 to 6 years of relevant experience.

Requirements: 

• Must possess a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance that covers business driving, and an automobile for business use.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours, often including nights and weekends.
